Gospel Reading: Mark 2: 1 - 12
1 And when he returned to Caper'na-um after some days, it was reported that he was at home.
2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, not even about the door; and he was preaching the word to them.
3 And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.
4 And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and when they had made an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay.
5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "My son, your sins are forgiven."
6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts,
7 "Why does this man speak thus? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
8 And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you question thus in your hearts?
9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, `Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, `Rise, take up your pallet and walk'?
10 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" -- he said to the paralytic --
11 "I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home."
12 And he rose, and immediately took up the pallet and went out before them all; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"

In the biblical world, healing is never seen as a purely medical, such as forgiveness, it depends on God. It is believed, wrongly or rightly, that disease and sin, healing and forgiveness are bound by any one who grants forgiveness, that "forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases" (Psalm 103, 3). Forgive and heal, as does Jesus, this is playing God, "Why does this man speak like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone? "
In fact, Jesus said, "Son of Man" because he does not want to overshadow the glory of his Father. But the scribes do not see in him one who will come on the clouds of heaven with great power (Mark 13, 26). How can the preacher be the Lord, whose appearance, when all will be collapsed empires, will open the reign of justice and peace (Daniel 7)? How could they see that which comes down very familiar "home" - probably that of Simon Peter (Mark 1, 29) - the Messiah whose coming is shrouded in mystery? How could they see as paralyzed as Jesus calls "my son", anything but a sinner promised, too, to death? Jesus guess they thought, "Why make such reasoning? What is the easiest? To say: "Your sins are forgiven" or to say: "Arise"? "But they are blind and not see. They do not know what to say.
Jesus, He sees what others do not: it reads the thoughts of men, he grabbed "in his mind" the reasoning of the scribes, he knows the heart of the poor. He first sees the faith of those men who are going to discover the roof to bring the crippled him up. And what he sees is not primarily a crippled, handicapped, it is primarily a person in need, like everyone else, that his sins are remitted. Because that is why he came, for the forgiveness of sins. And it is because we doubt its power to forgive sins, he is doing the healing.
Moreover, in the Gospel, Jesus never rushes to heal. He knows that paralyzed expects anything but forgiveness. But wished to disassociate healing and forgiveness that the link in his eyes, does not come naturally. If this were the case, indeed, the disease is linked to sin and grace in health. Experience shows, however, we can live very long and well with his vices and they can die of illness in full spiritual health. For Jesus, the disease does not cause other than itself, even if it serves the glory of God. As he says about the man born blind: "Neither he nor his parents sinned that he was born blind but it is to be revealed in him that God's works. "(John 9, 3.) Lazarus was sick but not to die" for the glory of God, that God's Son may be glorified "by raising the dead (John 11, 4). Healing is the sign, the sign of the power of Jesus to forgive "so you know that the Son of man hath power to forgive sins on earth".
The cure is to show the effectiveness of forgiveness. To forgive is to heal the man with an incredible depth, is to give him to get up, he is dignifying it was more: "The man got up, took his mat at once, and went in front of everyone. "
Thus, "they were all amazed and glorified God, saying we've never seen anything like it."
