Today's mass reading from the Bible December/11/2011 (Sunday catholic church Scripture, day daily word of God)

First Reading: Isaiah 61: 1 - 2, 10 - 11

1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;
10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Psalms: Luke 1: 46 - 50, 53 - 54

46 And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed;
49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation.
53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away.
54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy,

Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5: 16 - 24

16 Rejoice always,
17 pray constantly,
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
19 Do not quench the Spirit,
20 do not despise prophesying,
21 but test everything; hold fast what is good,
22 abstain from every form of evil.
23 May the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 He who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

Gospel Reading: John 1: 6 - 8, 19 - 28

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him.
8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light.
19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"
20 He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."
21 And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" And he answered, "No."
22 They said to him then, "Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"
23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, `Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said."
24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.
25 They asked him, "Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?"
26 John answered them, "I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you do not know,
27 even he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie."
28 This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Sermons / Homily/ Preaching By - Sr.Francine

In the third Sunday of Advent dresses of joy! "I rejoices in the Lord" Isaiah exclaims. We sang "I exult for joy in God my Savior! "Taking up our own the words of the prophet and Mary, who sang in her Magnificat:" My soul magnifies the Lord. " This joy is not just a fleeting sense of euphoria. It is a profound joy as God wants for us. Saint Paul in fact a command to a community facing persecution! "Always be in joy ... this is what God expects of you in Christ Jesus. "This joy is related to prayer, thanksgiving and faith. It could be considered as a fourth 'theological virtue', the love, faith and hope. Is not one of the seven fruits of the Spirit (see Galatians 5, 22)? The joy of today, which blooms timidly at mid-thorns announced that tests how much more heady in the future ...

Why this joy? What are the reasons? Interrogate the readings of that day. The prophet has reason to rejoice because the Lord is upon him, the Lord has anointed. This joy is also ours. At our baptism, the Lord has anointed. The Spirit of the Lord is in all of us. Whether it is a source of joy for us throughout our lives. The Lord sent the prophet also "bring good news to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to captives deliverance, and liberty to the captives, proclaim the year of benefits granted by the Lord."

Another reason to rejoice. The Lord sends us, each of us, wherever we are, each in a manner all its own. The joy we have received from God, we must pass it, share it. And with the poor, those that joy was deserted. Delicate! I1 would be insulting to say to the sufferer: "Be glad, God loves you." Our love, our sensitivity, our actions, our silence sometimes have to show him the love of God. Through us, he should be able to discover that God suffers from his suffering, God is not evil, he fights, he wants all the joy born of shared love. This joy, share it effectively with the poor through the collection of Advent. If we see a face light hollowed by suffering, then we too will be in joy.

"The Lord has wrapped Mateau of innocence, he made me wear the garments of salvation," says the prophet. The image of a wedding dress means the Alliance. The Lord Envelope innocence, the freshness of confidence in him. We can not give what we receive. Now we have received everything from Him, we have coated salvation. Christ took on our humanity so that we can be united to his divinity. By our baptism we put on Christ. This is our strength and our joy!

It is the Lord himself will "germinate justice and praise before all the nations." All people will know that "his mercy is from age to age, it fills the hungry with good and sent the rich away empty." Our God is that which is lowered and lowered which is high. It is the joy of children!
In the Gospel of that day, the joy is mixed. You have to read between the lines. There was John, the voice crying in the wilderness. By his presence, he announced the Messiah, sent by God. He agreed to remove that Jesus shows through. For those who understand and welcome the Venue, it is a source of joy. John bears witness to the Light. Humbly. He acknowledges that it is not the Messiah, he did not even recognize worthy to undo the strap of his sandal, as it measures the distance that separates it from that announcement. However, it has a mission to baptize with water to prepare his coming: "In the midst of you stands one you do not know." The host, get to know him, have faith in him will be our joy! - Sr.Francine
