TODAY'S REFLECTION

Mark 9:22b-24 – Everything is possible for him who believes

“But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” – Mark 9:22b-24 (NIV)

This is a father desperate for his son’s healing, but he is not sure what Jesus can really do. Jesus immediately exposes the tension that we all face at one time or another: we are skeptical at our core even though we want to believe. This crisis has done more than bring healing to the son; it has helped the father see his true condition. The father needed as much deliverance from his unbelief as the son did from his demonic oppression. Are we willing to allow God to expose our need for His work IN us as well as around us?
